SOMA FLUX is a magnetic-bow synthesizer offering hands-free, continuous control over pitch, timbre, and modulation. A unique, beautifully built expressive instrument that turns gesture and movement into sound.

The FLUX is another remarkable creation from SOMA Laboratory - a groundbreaking expressive synthesizer with a magnetic keyboard you play without touching. It translates movement and gesture into sound with a level of precision and responsiveness unlike anything else we’ve tried.

Held between your fingers, two small magnetic “bows” interact with a multipolar magnetic sensor to control pitch, volume, and timbre. The right-hand bow shapes pitch and dynamics; the left controls tone and modulation. Together they give access to sixteen parameters in real time, letting you perform with the fluidity of a bowed instrument or the phrasing of a voice.

The FLUX can be set to continuous pitch or quantised scales, with up to six octaves available before transposing. It’s built around a powerful DSP engine capable of complex FM and physical modelling synthesis, plus built-in spatial effects. The result is a deeply expressive, high-end instrument that rewards touch, control, and imagination.
