MAGNATONE CUSTOM 260

A very fine US valve (tube) amp dating from the early sixties: a Magnatone Custom 260.
"A professional amplifier with twin heavy duty 12" speakers, the Custom 260 model is capable of wide tone range from resonant bass to brilliant treble with dynamic solid middle registor for stand-out performance. The 260 contains MAGNATONE'S Exclusive Patented BIG "V" --Vibrato-- The first True Musical vibrato. Acoustically correct, smart cabinet in rich charcoal brown leatherette with gold appointments. May be used for bass, accordian or piano amplification for authentic reproduction."
This amp is cosmetically-challenged but in great working order - has just been serviced and fitted with a three-core earthed mains cable - please examine the photos to fully assess condition.
Sounds fantastic - vibrato working well. Damage to the case/covering, handle broken. All major components look to be original except for Mercury Magnetics power transformer.
All features work - the pitch-shift vibrato is what Magnatones are known for and it's easy to understand why: it makes for a unique and evocative sound - once heard, never forgotten. Though rated at 19w these amps aren't over-loud so would make a good studio or home recording amp. A great opportunity to acquire one of these evocative amps.

These amps are noted for their unique vibrato and warm break up: famously used by Buddy Holly, Ry Cooder and Robert Cray amongst others.
