One of our favourite beatboxes of all time, the MP-7 remains a distinctive and unique voice amongst the crowd of wooden box era drum machines.
The Keio Minipops MP-7 is an analogue drum machine produced in Japan in the early 1970s by Keio Electronic Laboratories - the company that would later become better known as Korg. It is best known for its distinctive and characterful woody analogue drum tonality, especially the unique Quijada and Guiro sounds.
The preset rhythms can be combined by carefully pressing more than one button in at once which means this machine delivers a much wider range of beats/rhythms than might initially seem the case.
Famously used in this way by Jean-Michel Jarre on his 1976 album Oxygène. Oxygène 2 and Oxygène 4 both use the combination of Beguine & Slow Rock while
Oxygène 6 uses Rumba + Bossanova. The Rock 1 preset was used on JMJ's

The MP-7 has a lovely a warm, punchy tone and remains relevant and sought after by electronic musicians for its unique vintage drum sounds. Featuring 20 built-in rhythm patterns - including bossa nova, rumba, and rock variations - and its unmistakeable and classic early drum machine voices generated by discrete analogue circuitry.
